Hey there!

I’m Royce Rodarte 👋

I’m  a UI / UX designer with a background in art and teaching. Ever since I was a child, I have always been a creative person and spend my time in art, creating, and designing.

My Story 📖

I graduated with an advertising photography degree in Santa Barbara, California. During my time at Brooks Institute, I learned what separates  effective advertising & layouts from ineffective ones. For a while I was really invested in retouching images and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so for a while I was focused as a freelancing photo retoucher. After some time, I began tutoring a few people who asked to learn photography & Photoshop.

I found myself interested in teaching skills to others, so I decided to move to a foreign country I had no knowledge of. In 2017, my life drastically changed when I had decided to move to Japan. I didn’t want to continue as a freelancer at the time and I then became a language instructor. Throughout my time in Japan, my career as an instructor was developing. I was promoted to a leading role.

Then I met the most amazing person ever. I had met my wonderful wife and eventually I was blessed with having my son. My life would eventually take a turn where I was met with my growing desire to return to the field of arts.

I never stopped creating or designing. I did graphic design as my hobby where I eventually started to explore the idea of building a website from a design perspective. This moment was when I found out about UI and UX design. At this moment something clicked and then I knew this was what I wanted to do. So I dedicated my time to changing my career.

I took it upon myself to learn and build up my skills for a UI design career through various online courses. My teaching experience, people skills, and art & design skills were very helpful in my UI program study. To be a good UI designer means to keep on learning and constantly improving your skills.

I’m currently living in Tokyo, Japan, but eventually I would like to move back to the United States.
